Alana Nichols
Born profoundly deaf in Taipei, Taiwan, Alana was an unique story from the start. Diagnosed with an extremely rare form of deafness, her parents searched internationally for a solution, looking in Asia, America, and Europe. It was in Australia that they found a doctor who - despite enormous doubts - agreed to perform an experimental cochlear implant surgery. (Because according to her mother, “What have we got to lose? She has zero hearing already.”) Despite the discouraging circumstances, the experimental surgery was an unexpected success. As a result, Alana was able to attend a normal school alongside her hearing classmates. Now, she enjoys meeting exciting people and traveling through her work. She aspires to use film making as a powerful tool to share stories as a catalyst for positive change.
